Women Builders Gather for Good: “She Build” 2024
The "She Build" initiative is empowering women in Seattle, WA by ensuring they have safe, healthy homes.
On May 3, 2024, the women of Guardian Roofing, Gutters & Insulation partnered with the Seattle Chapter of National Women in Roofing and Rebuilding Together of South Sound to take part in the “She Build” initiative. She Build helps empower the women of Seattle, WA by “replacing their roof so they can have a safe and healthy home” says CEO of Guardian Roofing, Lori Swanson. But this gathering of women builders is “more than just construction; it’s a statement that we build stronger, together.”
What is She Build?
Made by women, for women, the goal of “She Build” is to empower women to uphold secure and healthy homes, contribute positively to their communities, and foster a supportive network. While the skill levels and experiences of “She Build” participants vary from year-to-year, skill-sharing and development has always been a key component of the initiative.
She Build 2024
This year, “She Build’s” collective efforts saw the removal of an outdated roofing system, paving the way for a comprehensive overhaul. Together, the team resheathed the entire roof decking, ensuring structural integrity and longevity. They also upgraded the ventilation and installed a new asphalt shingle roof system.
Prior to the build, Guardian also launched a safety and installation training initiative so their team could approach the event with confidence. Swanson explains “we choose to encourage community participation and empowerment among our team members and the She Build event brings together our team, its partners, and community organizations who are dedicated to advancing the housing and community issues affecting women.”
